Hvar town is a picture-perfect place which boasts incredible architecture and centuries of history. We recommend taking a walk through narrow streets among white stone houses and taking in the view of the city from astonishing fort Fortica. Built in the 16 th century this fortress offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and its surrounding Pakleni Islands. It is also a home to a collection of amphora, old cannons and ancient and medieval artefacts displayed among the recently restored chapel, dungeon and corridors.
The Renaissance square with its 16 th century well in front of the St Stephen’s cathedral is the largest square in Dalmatia. Enjoy a drink in one of the cafes and soak in the laid back atmosphere of this Dalmatian island and then check out the first public theatre in Europe situated just over the Arsenal.

Another highlight of Hvar is lace fabricated from agave leaves. This fascinating and extremely detailed pieces of art are on display in the Benedictine Monastery. Another sight well worth a visit, situated only a short 5 minute walk from the main promenade, is a beautiful Franciscan Monastery with its high bell tower. Its most striking feature is the stone relief carved by Nikola Firentinac in 1470 showing half-figures of the Virgin and Child Adored by Angels.
